A “Multifunction” System
That Does What It Says

The New Holland Construction Multifunction excavators are attracting a great deal of attention because of the variety of applications they can be used for – from demolition to long reach excavations.
The Multifunction system is a unique solution, patented by New Holland Construction and applied to some models in the crawler excavator range. The idea behind the design was to provide a single machine that can be quickly reconfigured and used for a wide range of applications. An advantage of this is fewer machines on sites where space is restricted, fewer operators and greater usage.
The system can be used in heavy duty applications when fitted with guards and protections on the undercarriage, along the sides, the turret, cab and on the boom.
The Multifunction is a four piece boom arrangement for use on the E215 or E245B which can be used for demolition jobs and where long reach is required. The 4-piece boom, on the 23 t. E245B gives a maximum working height of 12.8 m with equipment weighing 1.5 tons. The 21 t. E215LC ME hydraulic excavator is a standard excavator which can be easily converted to provide exceptional reach to a depth of over 13 m.
The versatility of the design is one of the reasons why the Italian army has place a substantial order for the E245B multifunction machines. Its strength, simplicity and boom change speed, deliver a vehicle which can be used in the widest possible range of applications: by using the same base machine but simply changing the boom elements and application equipment.
“We are extremely proud that the Italian Army chose New Holland Construction technology,” commented Adele Genoni, Key Account Manager and Project Leader for this initiative. “A customer like the Army needs multi-functional machines which assure excellent performance in the most diverse operating conditions, guaranteeing the utmost user flexibility and technical reliability.”
